Riga St. Peter's Church has opened its doors to visitors and offers to see the exhibition "Jāzeps Pīgoznis Award in Latvian Landscape Painting", which is taking place for the sixth year in a row. The exhibition is open until August 9, 2020
This year, the competition "Jāzeps Pīgoznis Award in Latvian Landscape Painting" had gathered 180 artists, who submitted a total of 327 works of art to the jury. The submitted works were evaluated by a professional jury. The chairman of the jury was Nugzars Paksadze, the winner of Grand Prix of the "Jāzeps Pīgoznis Avard in Latvian Landscape Painting" in 2019, art historian Ingrīda Burāne, painter Helga Jaksone, curator of Preiļi history and art museum Silvija Berezovska, painter Jānis Anmanis, textile artist Leontīne Pīgozne and set designer Aigars Ozoliņš. After the hard work of the jury, which took place in two rounds, 92 paintings were selected for the main exhibition.
The aim of the competition is to promote the interest of latvian and foreign artists in highlighting the Latvian landscape and to actualize the significance of this genre of painting in contemporary art.
